Eastern Time Zone: How to Improve Your Productivity

People live in different time zones, and it affects them in various ways. Some find it helpful because if not, you could discover timekeeping more challenging. However, managing time is difficult if you need to deal with several time zones. Suppose you are working in a multinational company and there's a meeting at 10 am but the local time in your place is already midnight. But there's nothing you can do because you're in a different time zone. You could be following the Eastern Time Zone while others are in Pacific Standard Time. You might feel unproductive sometimes, but we're here to help you become more productive regardless of your time zone.

States Under the Eastern Time Zone

There are many time zones in the world and among the popular ones include the Eastern Time Zone. In the United States, some individuals find it hard to distinguish the boundary lines between EST and the Central Time Zones. If you are living in the United States under EST, you don't have to worry about time zones with the following states because these places also follow the Eastern Time Zone:

  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Florida (some parts)
  • Georgia
  • Indiana (some parts)
  • Kentucky (some parts)
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan (some parts)
  • New Hampshire
  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee (some parts)
  • Vermont
  • Virginia
  • West Virginia

As you can see, there are many states under the Eastern Time Zone. Know that the EST includes that part of the country that is west of 67[deg]30[Sec] W. longitude and east of the boundary line described in Sec. 71.5. Therefore, it includes all of the State of Maine but does not have any part of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

How to Boost Your Productivity

If your co-workers live in the above mentioned states or anywhere in the world under EST, it would be easier to communicate with them since you are following the same time zone. But let's say you have a workmate in another time zone that is opposite to EST. That means 5 pm your local time would be 5 am in their time zone. If this is the case, you may find it challenging to select the best time unless you are skilled in identifying the time difference.

Although you cannot do something about time zones, there are many ways to keep productive at all times, regardless of where you are. Take a look at the following tips below and see what works best for you:

  • Determine the best time when you are most productive.

If you have a fixed schedule at work, make a timeline of your tasks and schedule the challenging tasks when you are most productive. Let's say you work more efficiently in the morning, then prioritize the challenging tasks in the morning. This way, you can finish them without worrying about the quality of your work.

  • Find something that motivates you.

If you are working from home, you can listen to music if that is what motivates you. Or you can have a cup of tea to help you relax and focus at work. There are so many things that can help you become more productive. What you need is to assess yourself and search for the best strategy that works best for you.

  • Break your tasks.

You will feel more motivated when you see each job being done. So instead of creating a list of generalized tasks, break them into subtasks. Then categorize them into easy, average, and difficult. It's up to you whether or not to start with an easy one as long as you do them and follow your timeline.

  • Use the right time tools.

If you are working in a multinational company, it would be best to have a world clock. You may also use a time converter if you need to find the time corresponding to your local time and vice versa.

Working in a company that uses a single time zone is easier than working in different time zones. But no matter what time you are following, what matters most is that you are determined to finish your responsibilities. If you are in Eastern Time Zone and having a hard time being productive at work, you may follow the tips above to accomplish your day-to-day tasks. If you are assigned to set a meeting or communicate with your workmates in different parts of the world, make sure to use the right time tool. This way, it would be easier for you to compute the time difference and find the best time that is most convenient for all employees.
