When Does The Stock Market Open?
The stock market is where you can invest and grow your net worth. Although it is risky, some people who have used the right strategies have doubled or even tripled their investments. As long as you have a disciplined approach regarding your stock market investments, you will be more experienced in this field. If you have invested in the stock market before or plan to invest your wealth here, one of the things you should know is when the stock market is open and not.
The Largest Stock Exchanges
As a stock market investor, it is essential to know that stock market trading hours vary from country to country. But what you should monitor is the stock market where you will invest your money. If you have never thought about where to grow your money, you may consider the largest stock exchanges, including the following:
New York Stock Exchange (NYSE)
The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is considered the world's largest stock exchange. This is because NYSE has the largest equities based-exchange considering the total market capitalization on it's listed securities. New York Stock Exchange is located in the heart of New York City. Therefore, the NYSE is in the Eastern Time Zone and you can find the current time in New York City here.
Nasdaq
Another stock market to consider is Nasdaq, the second-largest stock exchange in the world. It is an ideal marketplace where you can buy and sell securities. It was created by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). Through Nasdaq, investors can trade securities on a compressed and more transparent system. The term Nasdaq was used to refer to the Nasdaq composite. It is an index of more than 3000 stocks listed in the stock market. Some of the famous companies listed in Nasdaq include Amazon, Apple, Google, Intel, Microsoft, and Oracle.
NYSE and Nasdaq Trading Hours
If you are investing in either NYSE or Nasdaq, you must be aware of the trading hours. If this schedule doesn't work for you, pre-market and after-hours trading would be ideal for you. These trading sessions are commonly referred to as extended markets.
When does the stock market open?
Monday to Friday, starting from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm ET.
However, know that trades outside the regular schedule are made over electronic communication networks (ECNs). Meaning, you don't have to coordinate with a middle person since both buyers and sellers can connect directly. If you prefer the extended markets, make sure to coordinate with your broker and see if you are eligible for the trades. This is because pre-market and after-hours trading is only accessible by large institutional buyers. Both NYSE and Nasdaq are closed during the weekends on most federal holidays.
