Egypt Cancels DST for 2016
The Egpytian government announced on July 4, 2016 they will NOT introduce Daylight Saving Time (DST). Egyptian DST was set to go in motion on July 7th, however, that is no longer happening.
Earlier this year, the government announced DST would return. Yet, the Egyptian parliament’s protest vote against the clock change altered these plans and DST will no longer be going into effect.
Before this announcement, Egyptians were scheduled to move their clocks forward 1 hour at 12AM (+/- 0000) between Thursday, July 7 and Friday, July 8, 2016. Quite confusingly, some sources claimed the time would shift on July 5, 2016 instead.
Egypt has long been known to make DST decisions on short notice.
The main city this time change would have affected is Cairo, Egypt.
